My Journey
Having been a therapeutic foster parent for over 10 years and a special guardian, I understand first-hand the importance of having trauma-informed support as part of my professional network.

Through my own experiences, I now offer a range of training and support to help support others. Â With a combination of knowledge and lived experience, I share with others a deeper understanding of trauma and the impact it can have on children, their families, schools and other professionals. Â The information and advice I share is rooted in research and founded by experience. Â This approach allows the professionals I speak with an opportunity to see the world through the child's eyes.
I have taken the time to develop my skills even further with DDP training (level1 and 2), Trauma Informed Life story work training, and ADHD coaching training. Â This has allow a deeper and greater understanding which I can then share with others in relatable ways.Â
Apart from being a song in the Sound of Music, why name a business Edelweiss?
Not only does it sound like the support I offer (Aid and Advice), it is a plant which symbolises love, strength and bravery - all components for parents of traumatised children.
The delicate flower only grows in remote, rocky areas high on mountain sides. Â To find them, people have had to face difficult challenges such as not falling from the icy ledges or snowy peaks. Men would face these challenges to pick a flower to show their lady love and bravery.
Edelweiss also symbolises strength and toughness as such a delicate flower flourishes even in the harshest of winters.Â
When I heard all the background about the flower it reminded me of so many parents I have met who also tread a rocky path to reach their children who, even though their personal experiences have been harsh, can still flourish with beauty both inside and out.Â

Through my work with the COECT, I met a trauma-informed colleague and we found that our conversations just flowed.Â

Laura had a very different path via social work however our common goal was our passion around sharing the trauma-informed view and so we started our own podcast.Â
Â
Roots and Resilience came to life to help support any parent working on understanding their children and building their therapeutic parenting skills.Â
Â
Our episodes are based around issues everyday challenges we have faced personally, supported others going through things or delivered training on.Â
Â
As our community grows, the roots are firmly placed in understanding and the resilience of others is growing, allowing them to be the best parents they can be.Â
